DREAM MERCHANT

Awakened_ Dream Merchant series_ image courtesy the artists.jpg
Inspired by the oeuvre of iconic Australian artist Norman Lindsay, the Dream Merchant exhibition features a photographic collaboration by the artists Liam Benson, Sari T. M. Kivinen, Victoria Lawson and Naomi Oliver. The photographs take Lindsay's well-known characters - harlots, nymphs, amazons and satyrs - for a walk through the streets and environs of present-day Western Sydney with contemporary references to club culture, cinematic fantasy and home-made drag.
.
A parallel exhibition of original Norman Lindsay etchings and political cartoons provides unique insight into Lindsay's critique of Australian culture and highlights his links to the development of Western Sydney's cultural landscape.
.
