Rasa Sayang Tony Yap Company
Thurs 29 & Fri 30 March, 8pm
Rasa Sayang is an immersive, poetic and affecting work featuring dance, original music and visual arts installation. Arising from a longstanding collaboration between director and dancer Tony Yap, composer/musicians Tim Humphrey and Madeleine Flynn, visual artist Naomi Ota and creative collaborator Ben Rogan, this critically acclaimed, multi-award nominated work is making its Sydney premiere at Blacktown Arts Centre and is presented in partnership with Kultour.
Drawing on traditional Indonesian and Malaysian shamanistic dance, butoh and physical theatre, Rasa Sayang will transport the viewer with its evocative and trance-like dance phrases. An elegy to Yap's mother Sayang (whose name also means 'love'), this poignant work explores memory and loss.
Public programming
The visual and sound installation by Naomi Ota, Tim Humphrey and Madeleine Flynn will be open to the public during gallery hours.
